re-reading seventeen years of journals, flagging every explicit mention of gender

Asked to submit work to a show celebrating women’s history month, I proposed this piece. Of interest to me was finding a way to graphically communicate the extent to which questions of gender and feminism had figured in my development as an artist while also acknowledging that these questions were not currently central to my work. The journals from left to right cover the years 1986 to 2003, from the ages of 15 to 32.
